Play Date (Maxine Hunkel)

[Aqualad]

It was a beautiful day outside. The sun was hiding behind the fluffy clouds providing shade to the world. The wind seemed to be flowing ever so nicely. Kaldur was in his casual attire, something you'll rarely see him in. He had to say that he was enjoying the little free time he was having. Given everything that happened, Kaldur's mind was in a haze and he needed to clear it. It was all because of one girl; Tula.

He made the decision to follow in the footsteps of his king, Aquaman, but he couldn't help thinking about if he made the right decision. If he would have just stayed in Atlantis and focus on his studies would Tula and he still be together? It was better for him to accept it and move on. Besides, leaving Atlantis allowed him to form bonds with the team, his friends.

Today he would being hanging out with Maxine Hunkel, Cyclone. She was cute and the little time that Kaldur had spent with her he did enjoy. She talked a lot and spoke fast, but Kaldur enjoyed it. And she was smart, that also helped. He stood outside the gates to the amusement park, waiting for his friend to arrive.

It was a very good day for Maxine as she finally arrived in Gotham with her casual attire and her favorite green long jacket and thinking how it was fun that despite the sun was hidden, the wind gave you a warm sensation, maybe it was her using her powers without realizing it that made this because her but she dismissed that thought quickly as she was in a good humor. Usually when she has free time she just reads or work in designing clothes for the musical project in school, she rarely hang out with other people, especially outside New York. Maxine started to feel that she was starting to form part of the Team and she was glad that Kaldur invited her to hang out in Gotham.

She liked Kaldur. He was very nice, clever and patient with her which was very rare in people as she tends to talk and talk and talk and she has to admit that he was very cute. The few time she passed with him was very good and funny. She was about to finish the book of Atlantean sorcery that Kaldur gave to her it was a very exciting book and she was able to translate nearly everything thanks to a few books in the cave and the library of the Hall of Justice and Red gave her a little help too, he was totally the best. She had a few questions that maybe she could ask Kaldur later and she hoped he could give her another book about the culture of Atlantis. She wondered if Kaldur liked the Wizard of Oz book she passed to him.

It took her a while but she finally arrived to the gates of the amusement park where Kaldur was waiting for her. The red haired girl soon found her friend and run towards him with a smile in her face. "Did I made you wait for while? Sorry It's my first time in Gotham and usually I'm very bad with directions I can end getting lost easily but luckily I was able to ask a lot of people how to arrive here. How are you?"said the red haired girl greeting Kaldur.

Kaldur was very patient so he didn't mind waiting. Besides, he did not have to wait long for Maxine to arrive. Once he saw her he waved, signaling for her to see him. He doubted that she would have any trouble finding him even if she didn't wave. He kinda stood out. As she approached, a smile fell upon Kaldur's face. He was happy to see her though he would have been happy to see any of his friends. Still, he'd have to say he was more happy to see her.

"I am great and it is fine. If you did not know the location you could have asked me," He responded, "I would have gladly came to get you." It was true. He would not have mind meeting up with her and coming together. He looked around for a moment before turning his attention back to her. "Are you ready?" He asked.

"I'm glad to hear that I didn't make you wait a lot then"said Maxine with a smile when Kaldur told her that he was alright. He was in a good mood too which was cool. This afternoon would be great, thought the red haired girl with a smile. "I'll have it in mind next time thanks a lot Kaldur"said to her friend when he told her that she could have called him if she couldn't find the way. Kaldur was really kind and nice.

Kaldur asked her if she was ready. She nodded. "Yes I'm ready!"said Maxine as both entered inside the amusement park. She was glad that Kaldur decided to hang out in an amusement park, those were one of Maxine's favorite places, there she feels like a child and she had a lot of fun. Her favorite attractions were the tilt-A-Whirl, the mirror house and the bumper cars. She wondered if there were water rides too as she liked them too. "So where do you want to go first?"asked Maxine to Kaldur with a smile. She then wondered if Kaldur entered in an amusement park before. "Kaldur, have you been in an amusement park before?"asked interested. Maybe she could help him if he wasn't sure where to go first, and they could start looking for a water ride or maybe they could go in an enterprise first.

He placed his hands in his pocket, not knowing what to do with them. Kaldur had never been the talkative type except when being the team leader. Even then he only spoke when needed. Still, he did enjoy having conversations with people. You learned a lot more about a person that way. He nodded slightly in agreement with her. Kaldur had always been the type who would try to be there for his friends and do things needed. "Then let us be on our way."

He handed the gate keeper the tickets as they entered the amusement park. Kaldur glanced around at all the contraptions and the people who seemed to be enjoying themselves. People usually came to these type of parks in numbers, right? "This is all brand new to me," He answered, "I have heard of and seen them, but never once have I ever been inside." Amusement park never crossed his mind until recently. He just thought it would have been a good way to clear his head and to get to know Maxine.

He pointed to the bumping cars. They looked interesting and it seemed like they would be fun. "Those are bumping cars?" He said, "Shall we try them?"

She saw how Kaldur put his hands in his pockets and maybe something was in his mind worrying him. "Are you alright Kaldur? Something worries you?"asked Maxine a little insecure, not sure if she should ask the Atlantean. Maybe Kaldur would tell her what worries him, they were friends after all, and if he decided not to tell her it was alright they hadn't met well yet.

As they entered in the amusement park, the red haired girl's eyes wandered around all the place, seeing how all the people has their fun. These kind of places were always full of life and fun it was amazing. She listened to Kaldur as he explained her that he has never been in an amusement park before. Maybe that was what worried him, usually people get uncomfortable or nervous the first time you came to a new place or make something new, she still remembered the first time she started patrolling with Red or entered in the Mount Justice for first time. "Don't worry Kaldur. I'll assure that you'll have a good experience here and if you have any doubt or something I'll be there to help you"replied to Kaldur with a smile. That was true, she would gladly help Kaldur if he needed help just like he told her that he would help her too.

They wandered around the amusement park till Kaldur saw the bumping cars. "Sounds perfect"said Maxine with a smile as she grabbed his hand and walked towards the desk and both paid the tickets. She was glad he was interested in the bumping cars. "Let's wait till our turn. I'll assure that the bumping cars are totally fun and amazing. Usually there are one or two guys that end tend to hit everybody but it can be easy ignore them. These ones uses a conductive floor and ceiling, each with a separate power polarity. Contacts under the vehicle touch the floor while a pole mounted contact touches the ceiling, forming a complete circuit."said Maxine as she explained how they worked. It was science, she loved it and she couldn't help talk about it.

Was it that obvious? She was able to see that something was bothering him. There was no sense in trying to hide it now. He preferred to keep his inner feelings to himself that way he wouldn't be bothering people. He was a bit hesitant at first, but finally he decided to just say what was eating at him. "...I left Atlantis, I had a girlfriend, Tula. When I returned... My girlfrie--Tula and my best friend were dating," He spoke truthfully, "She wanted someone who was there... I am here."

He was hurt by this, but it was nothing that he would not heal from. Honestly, he was happy for the both of his friends. "Worry not. I am starting to believe I made the right choice." He assured her. He was able to meet all these wonderful people. Kaldur allowed her to take his hand and lead him to the desk. Kaldur smiled slightly as she explained how the bumper cars work. "I understand. It looks entertaining."

Maxine listened Kaldur's explanation of what worried him. At first she thought that he wouldn't tell her but he did. That meant that he trusted her which was a good thing. She felt bad for Kaldur after hearing his relationship with Tula. "I'm sorry Kaldur"said Maxine as she placed her hand in his shoulder. It was a heart wound, she has never had a relationship in her life so she wasn't sure what to say, but right now she had to cheer up Kaldur. "I-I'm sure you'll find the right person"said with a sincere smile. It was true he was an amazing guy and he probably could have any girl he wanted. Maxine smiled when he told her that despite that he felt like he made the right decision. "I'm happy to hear it. If you never came to the surface world I nor the other members of the Team wouldn't have met you and that would have been really sad"said with a genuine smile. Which was true. She found Kaldur as an amazing guy and she was really glad she was his friend.

"Sure, they are fun Kaldur and there are a lot more of attractions here that are cool like the bumping cars. We have all the afternoon to try them"said with a big grin. She felt like a child in a candy store right now. Then a siren sounded and the bumping cars stopped and people started to left the vehicles. "It's our turn. Pick the one you want"said with a grin as she started to walk towards them and hopped in a blue with purple dots car. "Oh before I forget it, when the siren starts to sound again you have to step the gas pedal to make it work and when you want to brake remove your feet of the pedal"said Maxine with a smile at his friend wondering which car he would choose.

"There is no need for apologies Maxine," He said, "No one is to blame. This is the path I have chosen." Things happened for a reason, right? Maybe it was not just meant to be for Kaldur and Tula. Worrying about it wouldn't help Kaldur or anyone else. Besides, Maxine was correct. Being on the surface world was the best decision. "You are correct. It is truly a blessing to have such amazing people in my life."

Each and everyone of his friends help a special place in his heart. He stared at the funny, little cars for a moment. He never drove anything before but it didn't look to be difficult at all. As he said, it looked pretty entertaining. She had picked the blue car with purple dots and Kaldur decided to picked the strange colored orange car across from her. "Understood. Push the pedal to accelerate, remove to stop," He nodded.

The siren went off and Kaldur pressed his foot on the pedal, driving forward and bumping into Maxine's car. He smiled slightly, but was hit from behind by another car. He turned around to see a little girl laughing. He could do nothing but smile back. "If I knew I would be in a wreck so soon I would have got my vehicle insured..." Yes, that was his attempt at a joke... A very sad attempt.

She smiled when Kaldur affirmed that he made the right decision about coming to the surface world. "That's the spirit Kaldur"replied Maxine. In a way she felt the same he feels about meeting her and the team: if she wasn't kidnapped by Morrow, she would have never met none of them and she wouldn't have made friends. She waved her head trying to push the thought as bad memories came to her head. She was glad that Kaldur was sincere to her about his worries, it reinforced their friendship.

Kaldur looked a little nervous with the bumping cars. Maxine nodded to the atlantean as he understood how the bumping cars worked. "Yup, you understood it I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. And don't worry, I'll go easy with you"said the red haired girl teasing Kaldur and trying to make him feel a little more comfortable. Then the siren went of and before Maxine could react Kaldur has already bumped her. Yup he understood the mechanics really quickly. She laughed and couldn't help but chuckle when the little girl hit Kaldur.

She laugh a little by the joke attempt of Kaldur. She realized that he was having fun and that was really good. The few times she saw him he was really formal and serious, this was good for him and she was glad to be here and see him having fun. "I doubt that the insurance's papers would serve of something here"said Maxine joking back as she drove back and turn left ready to bump back Kaldur. "Although if you want we exchange the papers after this"said with a chuckle the red haired girl. The little girl giggled and turn back to give Kaldur space to maneuver. Meanwhile Maxine was hit and turn around to see a pair of twins in the car that bumped her. She smiled and laughed. This was really fun.

"Go easy on me? How about we make a small wager?" A little competition never hurt anyone. It would be even more fun he thought. Truthfully, Kaldur did not mind losing, but he would give his all to win. "The loser must grant the winner's wish," He added, "What do you say Maxine? The one who bumps into the other the most wins." If Kaldur won he wish wouldn't be too difficult or outrageous. But she was more familiar with bumper cars so her chances of winning were better unless she continued to go easy on him.

"It would be best if we exchange information," He smiled. He was hit by Maxine so now the score was even. Now he was trying his best to avoid all the other cars and hit his target. He was going to try and capitalize on bumping into Maxine when she was hit by a pair of twins, but just as Kaldur got close he was bumped into again by the same little girl. Kaldur laughed slightly. "It seems I have myself a rival."

Maxine rose an eyebrow intrigued. "A wager?". He then explained the conditions of the competition. She thought about it a little:it would be fun and she still didn't know what she would ask Kaldur in case she won the competition, but she could think about it later and it would probably something innocent and small. She nodded and smiled to Kaldur. "Deal then."said as she shook hands with Kaldur as sealing the deal. "But that meant that I'm not going easy with you. Well maybe a little yes"said with a grin. She would do her best to win but she would play nice, after all it was Kaldur's first time with bumper cars.

For a moment she nearly forgot about the wager as she saw her friend having so much fun. Both were for the moment tied. She was able to maneuver getting away from the cars of the twins and Kaldur nearly hit her again but he was bumped again by the little girl. She laughed a little when he joked about him getting a rival. "I think that I got an ally"said with a chuckle. She took the chance and hit Kaldur again, although this was only the start and they had a lot of time till one of them win their small competition. Then she got hit by the little girl. "Uppss! Guess I talked too soon"said with a small laugh.

He gently shook her hand, nodding in agreement. It was nice to doing something this fun with someone this great. It helped clear his head of everything. It was just great to just push everything aside and completely enjoying himself. Kaldur did not mind the little girl or anyone either continuously bumping into him. Kaldur thought the little girl kept bumping into him because maybe she had a little crush. Then Maxine bumped into him again, giving her the lead. ”It seems you do have an ally,”

[/b][/color] He responded, ”And here I thought you were going to go easy on me.”

Then the little girl hit Maxine which made Kaldur laugh. ”And then she betrayed you,” He said smiling. He maneuvered his car around trying to get back to Maxine. He had to win. If Wally found out that he lost to someone, especially a girl, Kaldur would never hear the end of it. It seemed like every time he tried to get away some random person would bump into him. ”This is proving to be more difficult than I have planned,” He said to himself.[/blockquote]

She chuckled when he said that Maxine got an ally. "It's girl power"replied with a grin. She looked away briefly when he asked her that she said that she would go easy on you. "Well...with a wager in the middle...I'm still going easy on you. A little less that I had planned"said with a small blush. Maybe she should go a little more easy on him. But both of them were still having a lot of fun.

"In the bumpers cars alliances come and go!"said with a laugh. She looked at the little girl and both laughed. The red haired girl turn back her attention to Kaldur and tried to maneuver dodging people that tried to bump her. She was about to bump Kaldur for a third time but she dodged the car with twins and she was forced to miss Kaldur. He has been lucky this time but next she would hit him again. Time was running out.

[Aqualad]

"You do not plan on letting me win?" He asked, "I will take what is given to me." Kaldur did not have problem with someone allowing him to win. If it was given to him why not take it? He did enjoy competition, but honestly she did have a upper hand, seeing as this was he first time. He understood why she would go easy on him. He smiled as she blushed slightly. It was cute. "Even if you do not go easy on me, I will still win."

He did not believe that all. He was just talking a good game now. "So it would seem. I have no need for alliances," He said, smiling, "I only have one objective and that is you." He pointed at her as he maneuvered the car around to try and bumped into her. Suddenly, the horn blew and it was over. He stood up out of the small car and walked over to Maxine, offering her his hand to help her up. "You win this time Maxine," He smiled.
